PROJECT DESCRIPTIONThe Chife Foundation is planning and designing a new city for the community of Anam in Eastern Nigeria. This settlement is envisioned to be exemplary in its approach to environmental, economic and social sustainability. Self-sufficiency, livability, maximized use of local resources and efficient design schemes are important objectives. The ultimate goal is to create a prototype for new (as well as existing) African cities, thereby creating a model for sustainable development on the continent.
The first phase of the new city development is planned to begin by the end of 2010. The first phase projects will include a block factory, school, hospital, worker’s village and all supporting infrastructure (roadways, river docks, biogas plants). With the goal of an eco friendly approach, construction of physical infrastructure for the New Anam City Project will utilize locally produced building materials sourced from local materials such as sand and soil deposits. First phase building materials manufactured on-site will consist primarily of stabilized soil blocks together with sandcrete blocks and pavers. Subsequently, the building materials delivery system for the Project will diversify over time as first phase production technologies are proven locally and additional options for alternative building materials come online.
POSITION NEEDED:
Construction Program Manager
The Chife Foundation seeks a qualified candidate to manage the construction program for the project. Working with a team of Project Managers and Architects, the CM will be responsible for the oversight of the full scope of construction of various units on the project site including scheduling, cost estimation, equipment acquisition, resource management, contractors and construction worker supervision. The CM will also supervise the Block Factory Manager who is responsible for the operations of the block production facility on-site within the New Anam City development. Prospective applicants must be available to live and work within the project site in Anambra State, Nigeria for a period of at least six (6) months to one year.
QUALIFICATIONSCandidates should have formal training and field experience with large-scale construction and/or infrastructure. Familiarity with cement-stabilized soil block manufacturing techniques and exposure to sandcrete block production is a plus. The ideal candidate will have solid construction/project management software skills, excellent organizational and communication skills, able to work in a foreign environment and demonstrate the capacity to lead a multidisciplinary and multinational team. A Bachelors (or first) degree in Civil Engineering, Construction or related field with at least 8 years of supervisory project management experience is required.
